In 1993, they appeared with Alcione and their madrinha Leci Brandão on the stage of Mangueira during that school’s samba‑enredo launch – a major validation from the very heart of Rio’s samba world. Back in Maranhão, the group continued to perform everywhere, from the historic centre of São Luís to rural villages, and later recorded their first CD under the musical direction of Jorge Cardoso.
